미국 식품의약청(FDA, Food and Drug Administration)이 8월 25일, 하나의 센서로 혈당과 케톤 수치를 동시에 확인하는 착용형 센서가 승인됐다. 당뇨병성 케토산증(DKA, Diabetic Ketoacidosis)은 체내에 인슐린이 부족해서 지방을 분해할 때 생기는 독성 물질인 케톤이 위험한 수준까지 쌓일 때 발생하는 급성 합병증이다. 그런데 혈당 수치와 케톤 수치가 항상 같은 방향으로 움직이지 않고, 증상이 독감과 유사해서 알아차리기 어렵다. 이제 항상 신체에 부착하는 센서로 측정해 스마트폰으로 확인하고, 긴급 상황에서는 알림을 받는다.
